Welcome to The Auditory Ally Blog: Your Partner in your Cochlear Implant Journey
About Me
Hello, my name is Erica and I am a speech language pathologist with a specialty in working with young adults and adults with cochlear implants. If you’re new to the world of cochlear implants, or supporting someone who is, you’re in the right place. Through this blog, I hope to share resources, information, and education regarding cochlear implants that will help users.
As a speech language pathologist, I specialize in aural rehabilitation. Aural rehabilitation, according to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is: an “ecological interactive process” that helps an individual minimize or prevent the limitations caused by hearing loss. This process involves several components, such as sensory management (like using hearing aids and cochlear implants), perceptual training (like auditory training), instruction on the technology, and counseling to help with the psychological and social impact of hearing loss.

A speech language pathologist can be especially helpful in the perceptual training, or auditory training, part of aural rehabilitation. This is why I set out to create my own auditory training program to help CI users. I will touch on that program in another blog post, along with some other auditory training resources.
